Verified ReviewerThey built a home for me, and I was extremely pleased with their process.
My house was started in January and completed in mid May. The quality control throughout the build was excellent.
Building a one of a kind house in the middle of nowhere requires special skill set that Americas Home Place (AHP) excels at.
I have bought and remodeled, as well as design built in Minneapolis,Chicago and rural Virginia over the past 45 years. I have never worked with a better company to address the four aspects that are most important to me when custom building a home.
Cost: AHP provides a very detailed list of all the costs for building your house before you ever sign your contract. At any point in the process you can determine how much your house is going to cost. My house was actually completed for several thousand dollars under the contract price.
All of their standard countertops, cabinets, windows, doors, flooring, etc is excellent quality and found no need to upgrade to higher priced products.
Quality construction: AHP has a very obvious culture for quality construction. Every house has a project manager that provides vigilant oversight of every phase of construction. Due to their expanse of corporate offices, they they have access to very competitive materials pricing, as well as their choice of the best available tradesmen from foundation to roofing and everything in between.
Completion time: This can be one of the most frustrating aspects of building a one of a kind house in the middle of nowhere. My house build was built with assembly line efficiency and quality.
Additionally all of the inevitable punch list items that require follow up attention before final closing were addressed in a very expeditious manner.
Customer service: There are myriads of details to be considered and decisions to be made before and during a home build. In spite of the very detailed pricing contract, there are inevitable issues that arise that are not in writing.
The ability to have daily access to AHP personnel to immediately resolve any building discrepancies makes the building process much more enjoyable.
Building your own home on your dream piece of property is for many a once in a lifetime project. In my 45 years of having home built and remodeled houses I have never experienced a more reliable and ethical building company.
User's recommendation: I would strongly recommend Americas Home Place Fredricksburg, Va. office to anyone.

My husband and I are in the middle of a build and wish we had chosen another builder. They use inferior subcontractors, and they do not communicate well.
Our building foreman is on site maybe once a week for 30 minutes.
Choose another company and avoid what we are going through. Shoddy work, a lot of rebuild that is unnecessary.

Was told that the prices of the houses would decrease after the lumber price went down.. lumber prices are down 75% percent and Americas home place prices are still going up..
you will be paying $140 per square footage while other companies are back around $90-$110 per square foot. What else will they lie to me about.

Verified ReviewerResolved: Update on a previous review. My issues were resolved to my satisfaction and I upgraded my rating from 3 to 4 stars.
Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. A contractor was sent out to redo my shower.A contractor was sent out to replace bad planks in my kitchen floor and a painter came and repainted trim that was removed to repair the floor.
I had an issue with my tile shower. The floor was wet 24 hours after using the shower, but they couldn't find where the water was coming in.
After several attempts to correct the problem, they decided to remove the built-in shower seat and build a new one. Well, that resolved the problem.
- Corrects any issue that may come up
Preferred solution: Nothing
User's recommendation: Stay in contact with your project manager. Let them know immediately of any issues you may have.
Missing square footage
To Barry Connor and Americas Home Place Corporation, I am compelled to write to you as it has become impossible for my family and me to continue to sit idly by while we are highly dissatisfied with this build that was suppose to be our forever home. After much discussion, we feel that it is our obligation to bring our complaints to your notice and fellow consumers who may fall prey to this esteemed company.
Imagine your spouse and you are finally in a position in your life emotionally, physically, and most importantly financially to be able to turn your dream into a reality and build a home suitable enough to accommodate your family of nine.
You have received an AHP recommendation from a reputable source, so you decide to schedule an appointment to meet with the sales representative. During the initial meeting, you discuss your wishes and desires for your forever home and by the meetings end, your spouse and you have decided on a plan that would best accommodate your familys needs. Your spouse and you decide to do your due process and research other builders because AHP was the commencement to your home building search. After several searches, you conclude that none of the other prospects come close to AHPs integrity and passion for customer satisfaction.
Your spouse and you return weeks later and pay a deposit on what you were told was the initial house plans that you originally decided upon. You become acquainted with enthusiasm and reassurance as you collaborate with the sales representative to solidify details and finalize closing. Your spouse and you ensure that the additionally areas that you requested are included on what you were told was the original base plan and then you sign off. Your spouse and you are ecstatic to enter into this next phase of your life.
Moving onward, closing date has come and gone. The project manager has viewed the home sight and laid the foundation and the subcontractors are vigorously working to begin the framing process. Your family and you feel as if life is finally aligning up for the good. Your spouse and you are eager to take your children out to the home sight to visualize their future living space.
During this time, you instantly realize that something is amiss. The home is significantly smaller than how you imagined and a vital area; which initially sold you on the home, has been excluded. You immediately contact the project manager, who appears unaware of any changes, to convey your concerns and return home to investigate. Upon review, your spouse and you realize that the initial base package plan was changed without your knowledge.
Feelings of being manipulated and swindled encompass you as your spouse and you come to the realization that an essential 200 square feet (approx.) has been omitted from the current house plan. Frantically, you contact the project manager for resolutions and await response. Days past before a response is received. The project manager remorsefully relies that the corporate office reviewed the concern and advised that nothing can be done about your concerns because the changes were made between the initial meeting and the time when you returned to pay the deposit.
The project manager acknowledged that your spouse and you may not have been informed of these changes, but that it could be perceived that it was just as much our fault as it was theirs, since you signed off on the architectural house plan. Your spouse and you have distinguished careers and both can profess that you are not knowledgeable contractors, so we were dismayed by the fact that this illustrious company would attempt to place blame on their consumer instead of being solution focused. At this moment, you ascertained that the morals and values set by Mr. Barry Connor to treat customers with respect always following good, honest principles, had been compromised.
This is not the forever home that your spouse and you envisioned, instead this is the house that Americas Home Place selfishly decided that we would get despite our feelings and desires. By far, this has been one of the worst experiences that we have had t go through as a family. This situation has affected our household, resulting in a marital weft between myself and me. Additionally, I have found myself within an internally battle which has resulted in an increase in anxiety as we continue to be silent about the injustice.
We no longer trust AHPs integrity nor the individuals associated with the company. Royce Williams, our building consultant, led us to believe that this process would progress smoothly and we have come to the realization that he is a manipulator set out to find vulnerable consumers such as ourselves. Mr. Wayne, the corporate liaison, has not even taken the time to address us personally about our concerns.
He is money focused and does not care one bit about customer satisfaction. Michael Locke, our project manager, relies that he has no authority when it comes to our concerns and we believe has been placed as the middle man to attempt to pacify us with justifications in an effort to dissuade us from making a public complaint. It was not until recently that I was made aware that we could pay an additionally 30,000 dollars to include the missing square footage instead of rectifying their mistake at the cost of the company. We are currently paying more money for less space and everyday since we verbalized our displeasure, we continue to find more issues and concerns with this house.
AHP has caused us to question our judgements and we feel obligated to observe every process of this house. The excitement of this journey has been overshadowed by the carelessness and greed displayed by AHPs affiliates. To conclude, we implore customers/consumers to BE AWARE! We have several friends and relatives that are in the market to build an we are vigilantly bringing awareness to the injustice that this company has done to us.
We have since spoken to the source who referred us to AHP and has requested that they no longer recommend this deceptive company. If you decide to go with AHP, please due your due diligence and RESEARCH EXTENSIVELY!! Make sure you double and triple check your plans. Do not assume that they have your best interests at heart!
We refuse allow another unsuspecting consumer to be blindsided as we were! To Mr. Barry Connor, I pray that this is not the company that you envisioned for your legacy. We urge you to reevaluate the companys process when dealing with conflict resolution and to establish more effective methods other than place blame on the customer.
We would have respectfully declined to pursue working with this company if we were made aware of the changes with the initial house plans and we truly believe that this is solely the reason why we were never informed of the changes. If you are looking at AHP as your complete home build, do yourself a favor and PLEASE RUN!!!
With Regards,
Danielle Blair

Verified Reviewer |Warranty work
Our home was built in Thomson, GA. We have been waiting over a year to get our warranty issues resolved!
Twice, I took off work to be home so they could replace a cabinet door, and both times it was the wrong size. To make matters worse, it was the manager of the Augusta store doing the work. I have a cracked block sheet rock on the wall with a crack from ceiling down and missing door plates. I don't think they want me to show up at their store on an open house and express my feelings about how bad their work is, but I'm really close!
If these matters aren't addressed soon, I will be talking to an attorney. I will not lose pay again for them to come do work they can do on a Saturday or after we are off work.
We've already tried twice to accommodate them; it's time they actually accommodate the customer. AHP Augusta is a poor excuse for a custom home builder.

Floor is messed up.
We had Americas Home Place build our home in 2019. At our 1 year inspection I brought it to their attention our kitchen floor wasnt level.
After seeing for hisself with a leveler we were promised someone would be out to fix it. The kitchen floor was jacked up and support beams that were left out were placed. A year later my Kitchen Floor makes me sick to walk on it. Its so uneven there is a hump.
Our house had settled so much that we have more nail pops, cracks in the dry wall. Our home was finished 3 years ago in July.
They hire the cheapest companies to do the work. Were in the process of speaking with a lawyer to get this fixed.
- Cheap
- Quality of products was really poor
Preferred solution: My kitchen floor fixed and all the cracks in my dry wall.
User's recommendation: What ever you do don’t choose Americas Home Place. Unless you want affordable that isn’t built correctly.

Verified Reviewer |Homes are not quality built…
Floors are splitting and caving in, electrical short. Wood coming apart on steps to porch.
I had a home built by America's Homeplace, a nightmare from the beginning. Fast forward over a year, no year walk-through.
Problems with the flooring, it's coming apart and one place has caved in.
There's an electrical short, shoddy craftsmanship. I wish I could do it over again with a different builder.
Preferred solution: Floors redone

Verified Reviewer |My rating should be 2. I’ve had several issues from 4 water leaks, 4 issues with the flooring and 3 issues with my shower.
The day we moved in there was a problem with the floor. The planks weren't locked together properly and had to be replaced.
About a month later, we noticed water on the kitchen floor. A pipe to the outside hydrant was leaking and water was coming in the house. The kitchen floor had to be replaced and new baseboard and insulation had to be replaced. Then we had 3 more water leaks in the ceiling, 2 in the master bedroom and 1 in the kitchen.
They had to fix the leaks, repair drywall and texture the spots. Our air conditioner went out when it was 105 degrees outside. Water somehow gets under tile shower floor and leaks back out so the floor never drys. Thats been repaired 3 times and its still leaking.
Garage floor has paint spots all over it because they didnt power wash it before we moved in.
Its been a disaster from day one and Im afraid that now that the warranty is out well have to pay those cost when the floor messes up again. This isnt what we expected when we had a new house built.
- Move pretty fast working building our house
- Way too many things were not done correctly and had to return several times to
Preferred solution: I’d like the repairs done properly so there won’t be any more issues

Verified ReviewerNew office in Cincinnati did an excellent job on my home
They were new to the area and we had to fire a few subs that were not up to snuff but they made it right all along the way with some extras and its a way better build than the established builders in the area who were all $100k more for less. Tweaked a unique 5 bedroom plan with a first floor master bed/bath, egressed for a 6th bed and 5 bath in the 9' basement, dual hvacs for upstairs and down, custom 18' garage door, custom kitchen with drawer microwave, etc.
If you have any questions in the Cincy area, feel free to email me at joshschaad@***.com for the good and the bad. Id love to build another on 2 more lots that I have and want the referral bonuses!
- Made all issues right
- Quickly
- Took a little longer but much better than the local builders
User's recommendation: Be involved. There will be issues with whomever you go with. The question is how fast will they make it right.
Pleased with the build, and with the great team at the katy location.
I would strongly recommend Americas Home Place to anyone looking to build a custom built home, the team they have in the Katy office were such a great group of individuals to work with on the building of our home. Mike our project manager was out for a few months, but he returned eager to satisfy us and cater to our wants and needs.
Wayne was such a blessing from the day we stepped into the office. Thank you all !

Lack of commitment to home warranty as they installed a broken window 1.5 years ago and have not replaced. We have a crack and hole in the flooring tile in our guest bathroom that has not been addressed in 1.5 years.
Just my two cents
So, I just finished building with AHP last week in North Carolina. For background, this is my 4th "from the ground up" home I have purchased/had built.
Other locations I built were Florida, Maryland, and South Carolina. This was the first AHP build I've used.
After three other ground-up builds I like to think I'm moderately savvy about the home building process and the quality that goes (or not) into a home.
I was on my property extensively during the building of my AHP home and in addition, my father-in-law lives only 1/4 mile from my property and he went to the house daily to check on progress and to make note of any issues he saw.
I would say that I was pleased with the overall quality of the construction of my home. I watched everything from the footers to the final paint work go on and I thought the sub contractors all did a good job with their individual work. I know that the subs for this particular AHP have been working with them for a number of years and not just random subs that AHP found.
While I just closed on the house last week, I realize there will be issues that are going to be needed to be addressed over the course of time - that's the nature of home builds. But again, my experience so far has been all positive.
Most of my AHP team have been at their location for more than 5 years - I know this as I was going to build with them 5 years ago but had to put it off for several reasons. Almost all of them are still there.
My young site manager could not have been better; responding to my calls and texts promptly, and sharing everything going on with the build in real time. The house also went up in the timeframe we had predicted - one week over schedule.
When I initially planned to build with AHP I read all of the poor reviews you see online and was definitely leery.
However, I met with the personnel in my location many times and discussed the build process, materials used, contractors used, etc. and I did not feel as wary. So for those reasons, and some others, I decided to build with them.
Maybe there is a discrepancy in the quality of build depending on the location - I don't know that, just speculation considering mine went so well. Keeping my fingers crossed that there are no major issues, but just the normal new house issues (nail pops, settling walls, etc.).
On the day I received my keys at my house, my site manager, the regional vice president and another senior AHP manager were all at my house (way out there on a lake with nothing else around) to meet me and ask me how it all went.
I basically told them all I've said above.
I read the poor reviews and certainly feel sorry for those that are unhappy with their AHP home. So far I'm fortunate with the quality of construction and materials used and I'm hoping I stay content with the AHP home I own.
- Nothing is cheap any more
User's recommendation: Based on how my build went, I would recommend the AHP office I went through.

Here in Charleston, SC, Same thing is happening to us now. They use very unskilled workers and it’s alarming.
We are disappointed to say the least. The site manager is never here and is lackadaisical
